Prominent North Carolina Businessman & Entrepreneur is seeking to unseat Renee Ellmers in 2014
(North Carolina) – Houston Barnes officially announced his campaign for U.S. Congress today. Barnes, a Democrat, is seeking the 2nd Congressional Seat currently held by Tea Party member Renee Ellmers. His candidacy sets up a tough fight for Ellmers, as Democrats are ready and energized to take back the seat during the next election. Barnes filed official paperwork today.
“We need a non-wavering voice in Washington that understands the needs of businesses and our communities,” said Barnes. “I’m proud of my record as an Entrepreneur who works every day helping to grow small businesses in our community, and in Congress, I will continue to fight for the people of North Carolina.”
Born and raised in North Carolina, Barnes is very active working with community organizations. He has a reputation in the state as a leader in helping entrepreneurs and small businesses. Before founding his law firm, Barnes spent a great deal of time at Ft. Bragg working closely with Special Forces units in the development of a medical device to assist the military in the field. In his free time, he serves on many corporate and local non-profit boards, as well as mentoring in the entrepreneurial programs with CED, an organization that enables and promotes high-growth, high-impact companies. He also frequently mentors in the business schools of the University of North Carolina and North Carolina State University.
Houston Barnes is the Managing Attorney at The Barnes Law Firm, PLLC, a North Carolina-based law firm focused on working with clients as business partners, helping companies succeed in all areas of business development ranging from inception to growth and expansion. Houston has helped communities and small businesses grow the local economy and wants to bring his economic development experience to keep North Carolina on the right path.
He is married to Brice, one of North Carolina’s top democratic fundraisers and is father to 2 boys.
